Blue Apple wins Digital Transformation award

Blue Apple wins award at the South Coast Tech Awards

The South Coast Tech Awards recognise the impressive technology of the IT and telecoms community in our region. This year #SCTA was hosted by The Business Magazine at The Hilton at The Ageas Bowl with special guest presenter Lucy Porter, renowned actress, writer, and comedian. Blue Apple was a finalist in the category of Digital Transformation, sponsored by The Business Magazine.

As the only non-tech finalist, Blue Apple was delighted to be announced the winner of the category and presented with a beautiful, engraved glass award by Richard Thompson, Managing Director at The Business Magazine. Blue Apple was also privileged to be invited to make the first award winner’s speech of the night. Professor Edward Rochead, Chairman of Blue Apple Trustees, thanked the hosts and judging panel for the award and reflected on Blue Apple's success in overcoming many of the challenges presented by the Covid pandemic.

He explained that this was achieved by delivering sessions digitally and also by using green screen and live streaming technology to film and deliver productions to live audiences, not just in the UK but internationally. Such nimble adaptation made engagement, participation, and audience attendance possible at a time when social exclusion presented grave risks to mental health. Having adopted online techniques successfully, Blue Apple has continued to offer online sessions to young performers and hybrid sessions to adult performers, widening access to more people with learning disabilities who wish to enjoy performing arts.

Blue Apple performer James Benfield then provided the audience with an update on preparations for the Blue Apple Macbeth, and extended an invitation to everyone to buy tickets for the show which runs 7-9 July at Theatre Royal Winchester.

Chair of Trustees Professor Edward Rochead said “I’m very proud to be Chair of Blue Apple Theatre who, as a very small charity, punch above their weight on behalf of our performers."
