Director’s Notes
Blue Apple has a tradition of using performing arts as a tool to open a conversation about serious societal issues. This project was initiated by people with learning disabilities who want to have a voice on the issue of the climate crisis but feel that they are not being heard. Local artists have worked with Blue Apple’s Special Assignments Company performers with learning disabilities through a series of workshops to create, develop and produce a film about the climate crisis. This was then presented in a live and interactive public screening event and also launched online for viewers around the world. The live audience had a post-film Q&A session giving them an opportunity to ask questions of the performers and artists.
This project aims to engage local people in the climate crisis conversation through the perspective of people with learning disabilities. Both real and imagined stories aim to make this issue come alive for audiences and bring greater awareness of the climate emergency to our local community. Our performers will explore inclusion and access in the context of the climate crisis. The current local and national climate emergency framework does not currently prioritise the needs of people with a disability. The screening will promote a conversation about access, equality, and the climate crisis.
